They had a huge tree in the studio, decorated by a collector who collects European Christmas Decorations.
The 80kg tree was absolutely laden, they say it takes several days to erect and decorate. I will try and find a picture, no luck so far.
Over the year the program has been running a competition featuring amateur collector's collections, with the winner to get their own exhibition at the National Museum of Australia.
The winning collection was something else, Brian Lynch with Shop Memorabilia;Click on the picture to see video of the collections.
They also have a 'Show & Tell' picture gallery - you can add your own photo(s) of interesting things, and others can leave comments - sometimes even identify an object that the owner is puzzled about. Some fascinating stuff!.
Our Christmas decorations have become a bit sparse over the years. Not having young people around is probably to blame, but I always do something, can't really remember a year that I haven't had at least a little tree or 'symbolic' tree, a decorated mirror or a few baubles somewhere. And I have lights, a set of stars which light up inside the front windows. Noel bought tree lights one year and draped them over a tree in the front yard. I think it would be sad not to do something
Which reminds me, funny how that happens, about the worst Christmas I ever had - and I've had a few I try not to remember. I was alone in New Zealand at the time, in Auckland, it was 2 days before Christmas and I was due to fly back to Australia when the airlines went on strike and I could not get a flight. On Christmas Day I went for a walk through the town, and found a small cafe open - my Christmas lunch that day was a ham sandwich and a cup of tea. Not my most memorable Christmas day, but then again, maybe it was.
Only 3 more sleeps until my son will be here - can't wait!

A nice read. May this year be a wonderful Christmas for you and yours.
Thank you so much for the links...I absolutely love Christmas decorations and treasure the ones that were passed down to me. Oh dear, how sad that you were stranded that one Christmas and couldn't fly home!! xox
Hope you do better than a ham sandwich and cup of tea this Christmas Della.
BTW if your daughter has an EJ Holden it's about 45 years old ... not 20, if it's a HJ almost the last Holden it's about 30 years old.
I should get industrious and drag out my Christmas decorations...mine are pretty sparse these days too...it's fun putting them up...but I hate pulling them down! ;)
I bet you are looking forward to the pending arrival of your son...have a wonderful time with him!
Hi Della, how lovely for your that your son is coming to visit!
That Collector's Roadshow is a great programme isn't it? I saw that show last night, too.
I think we all have one horrible Christmas in our lives somewhere, or not maybe horrible, but not as good as it could have been.
Have a great week.
Hope this Christmas is a good one. My worst Christmas Day was driving with my ex from Townsville to Sydney. Our car had broken down so we were running days late and our meal on Christmas Day was a deep fried dim sim and a chicken drumstick from a truckstop near the Gold Coast. I'm sure they had been sitting under the hot lights for two days. It was so depressing that I couldn't eat more than a bite. And you're right, unfortunately, I'll never forget that Christmas!!
Hi, hope you have a wonderful visit with your son, I am not decorating this year as I am not going to be home for Christmas. I am enjoying reading all the Christmasy posts.
Cheers Margaret
Until very recently I used the fairy that I had as a child on the top of our Christmas tree. Then I bought a new one - and another. They're pretty but they don't have the same delight as my cross-eyed, torn-dressed fairy somehow.
An interesting posting with great links to the Museum, also showing Brian Lynch’s collection. Christmas time is a time to rejoice and it will be nice for you to catch up with your son. For some however it can be a lonely time as I count my blessings for family and friends.
Your NZ stay alone on Christmas day makes for an evocative story, its brings back memories to me of my very young days when I was studying of an evening and working fulltime in Sydney. Being short on money I hitchhiked from Sydney to Coffs for Christmas and became stranded at Kempsey. I phoned my parents to come and pick up, just before Christmas.
Best wishes
Thanks Steve -
Lindsay, looks like we 'snap' again, I think we must have been living a parallel life back then ::smiles::
Peter, Carlena's car is a HK - 1968?
Tanya, I know about that truck-stop food - scary stuff!
Pea, and Liz - moving about so much, I've lost anything I ever had from family hand-downs, except the stuff I've got squirrelled away from my own times -
Robyn, I guess by the time we've had 60 xmases - there's bound to be one or two that didn't go quite the way we wished! We always watch The Collectors - did you know it's made in Tasmania? They seem to have a lot of history going on down there...
Lee, I am a past master at the last-minute tree, like Margaret, if I'm not going to be home, I think 'don't bother' but as it gets closer I usually end up doing 'something'.
